During different stages of our careers, we’ve all been forced to hunker down and get a ton of work done in a short period of time. As successful leaders, we know the value of staying focused, working hard, and being productive.

But are we missing something in our relentless pursuit of “what’s next”?

I think we are.

When striving for the next peak ahead, it’s easy to fail to think about how far we’ve come, or to confirm that we’re on the right path forward.

Countering constant “what’s next” pressure requires us to take time to think and reflect every day. While it’s natural to stay in “action mode” 24/7 consider the value of regularly and systematically switching to “reflect mode”.

A friend shared this blog by Brian Scudamore, CEO of 1-800-GOT-JUNK, commenting on how important switching to “reflect mode” is.

As we face the close of 2017, let’s acknowledge our progress to date this year, and reflect on the best path forward, just in case it’s different than the path outlined in your strategic plan.

Make sure you have enough time and energy to reflect on the positive things that have happened, and will happen in the future.

Positive momentum is a beautiful thing, but only if you take the time to reflect and think about it.
